Really good article. Working through the immigration backlog really seems like an issue that everyone should be able to support - I even remember Kamala advocating for hiring more immigration judges. Nice to see some progress being made.

Kamala and her Democrat friends wanted judges to grant the asylum claims so the illegals could stay and could legally work. In effect making the illegals, legal.

Great explanation from one of the best at the Center for Immigration Studies. Imagine the immigration courts finally getting the resources they need.

Having worked the visa line, I suspect that some unnecessary complexities in the system are there by design to make it unworkable and unable to enforce the law.

The Constitution promises "due process" and a "fair and speedy trial." Good rules, but the undue process intended to slow the resolution of immigration cases not only deprives the defendants of their right to fair and speedy trials, but also deprives the government of its right to a faster resolution.

Where in the Constitution is the Federal government given the right to faster resolutions? I am not trolling you, but genuinely curious.

I never meant to imply that the government's right to a speedy trial was constitutionally enumerated, like the defendant's right. However, I believe that most courts would agree that it has a legitimate interest in a faster (and presumably less wasteful trial).

Maybe a better word choice would be: "but also denies the government, and the people it represents, its legitimate interest in a quick and efficient resolution."

This is unfortunate true of most judicial processes. The requirements for a speedy trial were to prevent a government from keeping someone in jail for extended periods before trial. Therefore delay was allowed only by the defence, and has since been used by the defence to keep people out of jail on bail (where bail is even required) for extended periods before trial.

Appreciate the clear explanation.

Great, clear explanation of procedures. A limit on continuances should be recognized for most cases: e.g. three continuances and/or 3 years maximum delay. No judge should be cited for denying due process past that limit.

I appreciate this clear explanation of how the immigration court system works. Thank you!

Since we’ve been told by our President that these creatures are vermin that are invading us and poisoning the blood of the country, representing an infestation of stone cold killers, can’t we just ship em all to El Salvador? Maybe press that new 747 from Qatar into action?

And a correction for Mr Arthur. We still have a Dept of Defense, not War. Changing the name takes an act of Congress. The fake name is just an attempt by our SecDef-the drunkard, womanizing, former Fox weekend talk show co-host to look tough.

First, it was Trump who decided to change the name (yes, not legally), not Hegseth. Second, when Lincoln was told that Grant was a drunk, Lincoln asked, "Do you know what kind of liquor he drinks?" When told they didn't know, Lincoln reportedly said, "Well, I wish some of you would tell me the brand of whiskey that Grant drinks. I would like to send a barrel of it to my other generals".

Jeepers Joe, I always thought that quote was apocryphal. But let’s grant it as real, and take your argument that a drinking problem is a desirable qualification for one of the most important jobs in the world. I trust you’ll seek out this credential in your own use of professional services, say, next time you need a pilot or proctologist. And if you’re blessed to have a daughter, I sure hope she brings home a man of Pete’s character, I can’t imagine you’d be anything but proud to show him off to your neighbors.

Beyond Pete’s drinking credential, what would you say Pete’s other qualifications are? That is, beyond the obvious, being a Fox weekend talk show co-host, and his ability to use Signal to broadcast war plans and put soldiers at risk.

Maybe as a perspective builder you should google the comments made about Don by his first term SecDef’s-Don’s own appointees, along with joint statements released by a bipartisan group of former SecDef’s. They’re bracing, so be ready. Pay particular attention to Mr Mattis’s comments on Don’s insurrection, his desire to use the military in our streets, his politicization of our military, and his lack of character and competence. Perhaps this will remind you why Don didn’t appoint another Jim Mattis in term two. He appointed an incompetent loyalist.

I know MAGA sees politics as a game of inward looking grievance and owning the libs. I don’t. Lives are literally at stake. I’m a lifelong conservative horrified by this incoherent, incompetent, imbecile. Imagine him at 82…

Golly Mike, I’ll readily cop to thinking Don is a danger, you don’t need to cite the WSJ. Will you cop to being in Don’s cult? I’ve learned that there is nothing Don can do to keep the cult from contorting into human pretzels to defend him. And ya know ya got em when they resort to lamely blurting out TDS:) All ya gotta do is remind them of Don’s actual statements and actions. No filter, just what he has said, on video, repeatedly. It leaves em speechless…

But the best part is the humor. It’s just doggone funny to watch the contortions. And it’s even funnier to remind Don’s disciples of the hysterical, abjectly stupid things he constantly says-ingest bleach, lauding the president of an English speaking country over his English speaking skills (because he’s black?), I love the poorly educated, claiming windmills cause cancer, claiming the Amish and Cubans don’t get autism (this press conference w RFK Jr is absolutely hysterical), I could fill the page. My personal fave is the deposition in one of his many sexual harassment cases where, after assuring us he couldn’t have assaulted his accuser because she “wasn’t his type”, he identified a photo of her as his ex-wife. I mean, does it get any better? Sometimes I need oxygen I laugh so hard! Enjoy your weekend Mike.

And good luck America.

Don's corruption is pretty doggone funny too, on the heels of MAGA's apoplexy over Hunter (whose corruption was real but paled in comparison). The crypto corruption alone is staggering. A few billion of family loot YTD, all while gaslighting the workin stiffs he purports to care about. I love irony, and the willingness of the "new" right to buy Don's flim flammery. Cracks me up:) There's a reason the tech bro billionaires had the prime seats at Don's inauguration, and it wasn't concern over the workin class. Check the photos...
