I hope you are right about the future of conservatism. Pence and Fuelner may be dinosaur toast but the RINOs still lurk trying to outwait Trump.

And a word about big ass trucks. When my mother was in her declining years and suffering from arthritis and osteoporosis, she found it much easier to get in and out of my truck than my hybrid sedan.

Because of my own arthritis, I had to sell the hybrid sedan and buy a mini-SUV for town as I dislike the big ass truck for town use.

I gotta hand it to Oren, it's pretty audacious to bring up Mike Pence. Anyone remember him, the poor, obsequious dude Don's troops threatened to hang? I seem to recall that Don, the leader of Oren's "new" right, picked him as his VP? Apparently Don was clueless that Pence was clueless:) In any event, after Don committed the worst act ever committed by a US president by inciting an armed insurrection, Pence saved our constitution while Don watched tv and munched tacos in the Oval. Thank god Pence had the guts and character to do the right thing. For this act, weak-kneed establishment elites like Oren excommunicated him from their party. And of course Don pardoned the thugs who were convicted of seditious conspiracy and a multitude of other violent crimes. And in an act of delicious irony, Don also picked JD, who predictably assured us he would not have had Pence's guts and character, and would not have done his constitutional duty in certifying the election. Shame on Oren, he obviously thinks dumping on Pence will place him in good stead with the dear leader. His collapse is nearly complete. It's time for a new right, a new establishment. Oren's version has gone stale, lost its way, and has become a cult of Don.

Stunning, isn't it? I'm still trying to get anyone on here to "say it out loud". They constantly hint at their desire for what the future looks like, but they keep picking off what the decent conservatives are actually trying to represent. It's pathetic.

Jen I fear we know the answer. MAGA is a movement built on grievance and anger, coupled with the personal enrichment of the dear leader. It's about hating the right people. It's a sad tactic that appears throughout history in times of significant economic transformations. The tragedy of course is that it exploits the very people it purports to represent, selling them anger, fabricated bogeymen, and simplistic "solutions". Those people have legitimate concerns, but MAGA's joke is on them.

Oren is emblematic of the establishment elites that often accompany such movements. Faced with a choice between national interests and personal advancement, history shows most pick the latter. It's why Profiles in Courage is such a short book.

It doesn't help to provide links to pay-walled articles. Can't you obtain a "gift article" link at those sites? It would be in the best interests of those publications for more people to decide they are worth a subscription...

I really appreciate this round-up of the discourse going on out there. Especially my 'one thing to read this week'. Thanks!

Great point Jeff. All those dadgum smart people trying to cure disease and invent the technologies of the future. Why would we want to participate in such wastes of time when we can whine about how offended we are by pronouns and kale. A tip. Ya don't have to hang out with em, but ya don't have to hate em either. Remember, our real enemies are not fellow Americans. I'd worry more about Don's pen pal Vlad than I would about a wimpy, granola eatin professor on the other side of the country...

The depth of Dog whistle in the piece is quite telling.

I've yet to read anything about what the SOLUTIONS look like, just that "woke" ( whatever you think that means) is wrong, and Conservatives (whatever the hell that actually is) are "right".

I'm always looking for a shred of direction in your writings and can never find it. All I read is "the left is wrong and they want big trucks" ( huh?) and "we" (conservatives) can do it better. What specifically does that look like? You want more voice on Campuses but you don't Say anything except the "left is wrong".

Currently we are IN a situation where the stupidest man on the planet is President and that's "good"? Unilaterally declaring WAR after causing the war in the first place, is this what you think is "good"?

If Project 2025 is the Agenda, it will NEVER happen no matter how "Crusade" the sicko's in ICE and the Church get. The people will never stand for it. Where are the Conservatives "health care plans"? Anyone can trash others ideas, it seems the Conservatives are GREAT at that (think JCPOA) yet they NEVER offer actual solutions.

Begging for information and only getting BS Rhetoric.
