“The grand bargain that Mr. Trump wants, establishing a balanced economic relationship between the two nations, is not one that he can get, because the relationship is not one that can exist. The asymmetry of the two economic systems guarantees that any deal with China ends with the United States ripped off.”

So true. They are communists, plain and simple. No way would we be compatible unless we go communist too?! Simple answer yes or no. No usual nihilist approach here with a middle of the road safe don't offend anyone answer. Can't straddle the line, those days are gone. Make a decision. If you decide communist, then as a young person go straight into politics and enter the image making BS game. That's the future for you then. If you go capitalist (hopefully with a small c) then learn to be productive, make stuff, fix stuff, be useful or you will be left behind.

So, like when in the room with someone you can't stand and can't even talk with, leave them and stay away from them. Nothing good will appear. None.

The communists are unreliable, liars, and to be completely ignored, they are bad news period.

"Across critical minerals, trade agreements, and the work at the FCC, China containment is advancing on multiple fronts at once. The work is real, and the work can hold. But as Oren warns in the Times, a grand bargain would undermine all of it. — Daniel"

Hi Oren, I wish I had read your New York Times essay yesterday when it first appeared. I would have given it a big, hearty thumbs up in the comments section. You covered all the bases concerning the dangers of allowing China to invest $1 trillion in the United States.

I don't understand Trump sometimes. He actually wants China's investment. I'm sure glad people in the administration seem to be slow balling this. As you point out, they don't want it either. I also can't wrap my head around Trump wanting 600,000 Chinese students in American universities. They'll learn all they can, and then go home and use it against the US. Besides, American schools should be for American students, first and foremost.

For those who might have missed Oren's essay, check it out: New York Times May 8, 2026 "Is Trump About to Invite In the Biggest Predator in the World?"

So far China has been far more helpful than Europe in getting somewhere with Iran.

Other than the military assistance they and Russia have provided Iran, aimed at targeting our troops? China is thrilled as we deplete our weapons stockpiles and burn all our diplomatic bridges. They can simply hang out on the sidelines, look like the stable, rational adults relative to the US and profess to be helping with the inevitable resolution. The longer MAGA's war drags on, the better it is for China and Russia.

Which is still better than the useless parasites in Europe.

I understand MAGA is uncomfortable with democracies, ours included. But, as our country's finest put their lives on the line to defend us, do ya really have to side with the dictatorships trying to kill them?

And don't we all tire of Don's whining? He chose to not involve any allies but Israel, yet as his disaster unfolds, he now whines that they don't come to his rescue. Is it logical to expect Europe to do things Don is unwilling to have our own military do? Besides, Don claims we already won... Then again, he's dropped lots of crazed ideas. My fave was when he mused about a joint venture with Iran to collect tolls on the strait. What foreign head of state (other than Don's puppet master Bibi) would send their sons and daughters to participate in a war led by this incoherent imbecile. It's Don's war, MAGA's war. Time to man up and take responsibility. No more excuses.

Hmm, a summit preview devoid of discussion of MAGA's Middle East war? What current issue is more relevant to both today's economic conditions, and the long term geopolitical positioning of each country? I'll hazard a guess that it comes up:) But I understand why Oren ducks the issue, along with so much else happening today-the rampant corruption, shredding of the rule of law, etc. The things that are actually happening in the real world, driven by the founder of Oren's "new" right movement, are given short shrift relative to theoretical musings. Apparently, speaking the truth carries too high of risk for many weak-kneed establishment elites who fear the loss of political access and fundraising success. To say nothing of their fear of the retribution so common in Don's world.

Don is marching forward with his America Alone strategery with the full support of the "new" right. MAGA's Middle East war is the first major example of its implications, as America relearns what alliances mean. It's humiliating to watch America willingly recede from world leadership.

Oren suggests some reading for the week. I have a suggestion too. Read every bleat Don sends, and listen to every word he utters publicly. Every word. The slurring and incoherence are terrifying. Then ruminate on the fact that he's leading our nation in war, and has his finger on the button. Shouldn't establishment elites like Oren speak up?

Good luck America.
