This is an excellent work of taking stock of what actually happened with the economic endeavors conducted by this administration. Although I am surprised that you have not mentioned that the $550 billion that Japan has committed to invest in the US was clarified by the Japanese representative the next day as not being new money. The Japanese government will only be financing those who wish to invest. The same is true for the $600 billion for the EU. Your report does mention that the deal is “fragile,” but the point is that nobody committed to investing new money. In fact, neither the Japanese nor the European government may compel any private business to invest whatever amount in any specific place. So, to the point that tariffs are negotiating tools, it seems like they are more propaganda than real gains. It makes me puzzled about the details of other deals our government has made with other countries.
You left out the part where he alienated every ally, increased all consumer good prices and pocketed billions for him his family and his cronies. Other than that great freekin job.
Oh yeah while he invaded our neighbor and started a stupid war with Iran, destabilizing huge swaths of the world. If there is any positive it is that when we are rid of him perhaps the people, both left and right can forge a new consensus to take back power from people who only look to profit as their guide.
It's amusing to read Oren, he's so fervent in his defense of Don, the founder of the "new" right, aka, MAGA. I understand, since Oren has lashed his long term reputation and professional credibility to DonOrenomics being a success. And given that Don's approval ratings on his handling of the economy have sunk even lower than poor ole Joepa's ever did, he's feeling a little pressure...
Oren, like the rest of MAGA, is slowly realizing who the joke is on. While Oren happily signs up for the team and pumps out white papers on the magic of tariffs, Don continues to use them to enrich himself and his family. It's so delicious to watch. 747's from Qatar, golf resorts in Vietnam, gold bars, buckets of billions in corrupt crypto cash from foreign interests, those tariffs are doggone handy!
At some point, Oren will realize that Don cares not a whit about the policy, otherwise he would have done the work of persuasion required by that pesky constitution, and asked Congress to make the tariffs permanent-IEEPA was known as a ridiculous route on the merits, but served Don's grifting goals perfectly.
Oren sees a first year by Don that ends with "a strategic logic that remains intact". Hmm. Strategy? Really? Beyond the obvious corruption, it seems to me that Don's gas pain rhythms correlate more directly to Don's random, flailing actions than any understanding or belief in Oren's formulas:)
Meanwhile, MAGA's Middle East war rages on. Ironically, Don is now paying the price for his America Alone strategery as our former allies refuse to bail him out despite his pathetic bleats for help. Most importantly, Don's fellow Epstein Class buds have been properly fed and watered. Nutlick, Jared, Witcoff, the crypto criminals, the tech bro's, they're all dipping their ladles into the trough. And like the rest of the plutocracy, they've been the big beneficiaries of the revealed preferences of DonOrenomics as embedded in the BBB-by far the most important economic policy implemented by the "new" right. The plutocracy wins, workin stiffs get hosed.
Here's a tip Oren. Remember the fate of the vast majority of Don's past appointees and supporters. MAGA isn't about policy, it's about anger, grievance, and owning the libs. JD is likewise about to learn this lesson, Don will soon humiliate him like all the others. I suspect JD's radio silence on MAGA's Middle East war has been duly noted. It's so fantastic, I can't wait.
It reminds me of the old poker rule-when you sit down at the table, look around, and don't see a patsy, get up-you're the patsy. Except in Don's rendition, everyone at the table is a patsy:)
An additional point. Tariffs are not only economic policy, they are foreign policy and defense policy. The interference in the latter two by the judicial insurrection undermines the whole structure of US governance. At this point, unless Trump were to go all Jackson on the Supreme Court, I am not sure what can be done. It is a bad precedent at the least. Having Congressional action would be a cleaner way of dealing with it but the Republican majority, much less the Democrats, clearly isn't going there. Too many Republicans are still in thrall to Wall Street. As to whether that is financial or ideological or both is unknown to me.
Richard, don't despair. Here's what can be done. Don can do what the constitution requires, the hard work of building the consensus necessary for congressional action. Why allow the next prez to wipe out his attempted short cut via executive actions?
But I gotta say, "judicial insurrection", me thinks ya kinda jumped the shark on that one:). Don's real problem isn't this court, a third of which he appointed, two thirds of which are hugely sympathetic, it's public opinion. His ratings on management of the economy have sunk lower than ole Joepa's ever did...and MAGA's Middle East war has only just begun to bite.

Good luck America.
