If only the Republican Party controlled both houses of Congress, passing legislation that Trump could sign into law instead of getting lubed up by a bunch of amateur lawyers to attempt to questionably squeeze through laws meant for other things. Sheesh.
It will continue to be very difficult for Trump to fight for rebuilding U.S. manufacturing and boosting the wages of working Americans. A lot of these deepstate Wall St neo cons have been making tons of money for the last 70 years off this system. They have deep tenacles into the political machinery which shows with all of the latest corruption in Minn Ohio Oregon California DC New York ect.
I just read a great book on Washington. Of course, Hamilton was a big part of the story during the war years and after. Both say how difficult it was to get funding to just be able to pay the soldiers and get food in the system they were in. To able to have a concerted way to pay for this instead of individual states playing each other off. Plus, Hamilton saw how the British had a strangle hold on us and the tariffs were one way to free from this dilemma.
The Boston Tea party was yes about taxes but really even more so on how the English East India Company (basically English commerce/politics in that day) was monopolizing trade and suffocating American manufacturing and commerce. They were keeping us as a vassal resource only entity.
England went into this mode we are in around 1846 with repeal of the corn laws. The financiers' bankers took over the country thru London, and they have never really recovered. They have eroded ever since. They stopped manufacturing and just went into finance mode.
Stop saying Trump is fighting to rebuild US manufacturing and to boost the wages of working Americans until you have evidence of an actual policy he has implemented that does the same. Do you just ignore the evidence of Trump arbitrarily using his imagined tariff power to force companies and industries to come bribe him for an exemption? It’s truly insane to just keep putting your head in the sand.
Even if a majority in Congress sees the wisdom of granting a more thoughtfully crafted tariff authority for the POTUS, Dems won’t support it because of their reflexive rejection of anything that DJT wants.
If Don was serious about the policy, he would want to make it permanent, the only way the policy has long term impact. That requires congressional approval, along with the consensus building inherent in this constitutionally prescribed step.
Don's preference for his bizarre taco strategery says it all. It's not about economic policy, it's merely another shakedown tool for the dear leader to solicit tribute, much like his crypto corruption.
Y'all gotta wise up, Don and his fellow Epstein Class just keep on pocketing the loot, while the gaslit workin stiffs get hosed. The Iran betrayal of his base is just the latest lie laid bare. Sadly it's far from the first, but ironically, this lie may prove the most damaging to his long time lock on his loyal flock.
Trade deficits, of course are a macroeconomic phenomenon driven by fiscal deficits that Congress's One Budget Bashing Bill just made worse by >$1 trillion per year.
Sweeping tariffs are a lose lose scenario for everyone. Targeted tariffs towards China (possibly with an ally or two) makes sense in concert with negotiations. IEEPA claim was a joke. Easy decision for scotus. Something a president that can only govern in an unconstitutional, monarchical way would do.
Ive been lucky enough to backpack throughout SE Asia; Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam are not “ripping us off”. Another Great Depression would lower our trade deficit. Small businesses don’t get carve outs so this tactic just leads to crony capitalism and corruption.
By the way why isn’t our massive trade surplus in services ever part of the discussion? We have a great economy and country so we should not be gaslighted about how everyone takes advantage of us. Oren needs to travel to more to places other than Davos. Like meet salt of the earth people- youll have a better perspective.
Wouldn't be a problem if the Republicans in Congress weren't so useless.

Good luck America.
Wow, are there any more issues you would like to use to gridlock foreign/defense/economic policy?
A tariff policy from the nineteenth century is fine with me.
Trade deficits, of course are a macroeconomic phenomenon driven by fiscal deficits that Congress's One Budget Bashing Bill just made worse by >$1 trillion per year.
A 15% tariff on all imports, although stupid, is completely legal. But it is not stupid enough to fulfill any conceivable Trump objective.
