I laughed out loud when it turned out the line about how share buybacks divide those who understand finance and those who don't ran up against... the Handbook of Corporate Finance.

Worked for a company that did buybacks for years. They'd announce next year's buyback target withe Q4 results. This started with the shares in the $55-$60 range. Last year they spent an average of $29/share for a stock now selling around $20; I asked someone higher on the food chain how this was different than taking $9 per share purchased and lighting it on fire...

"Banning buybacks while permitting dividends is exactly the way to go after misuse by top execs without interfering at all with capitalism’s valuable operation."

Thank you, Oren! Great summary in one sentence.

“do you agree with Oren Cass that share repurchases are evil?"

"Why do you want to ban them if they are not evil?"

With the above framing, Thaler remains true to his principles, the principles that he expounds upon in his tedious tome advocating for withholding information as a means to deceive.

His premise is worthy only of rejection, absolutely.

“….to be clear, it is not a war with Iran, merely a targeted, limited combat operation… of indeterminate length, scope, and objective.” I believe this is called a “No Plan plan”. Bears striking similarity to our Commander-in-Chief’s healthcare plan, ballroom plan, lunch plans and many other plans. Also known as Fire, Ready, Aim.

Intelligent things about stock buybacks appear in tax analyses. This exchange is not that.

As long ago as the late 60s when weed was a felony, people would smoke it in the college dining hall.

Frightening to see Oren and Dan are consuming Claremont Institute bilge. I didn't realize they were that deep in the fever swamps. Should we expect a guest essay from John Eastman on how to mount an insurrection? Maybe another flight 93 screed? Perhaps a little patriarchal Christian nationalism? Or how about recruiting Jack Posobiec for a retrospective on pizzagate... Geez guys, get a grip. No wonder women are fleeing the “new” right.
