I just really appreciate your writing, especially when you write about this area. Palouse and the Cabin Fever beer festival mean a lot to me and my husband for some personal reasons. This article really captures the culture of this place. Thank you!
Freight rail actually makes sense some of the time. Unlike passenger rail which is inferior to both autos and airplanes on either end of the spectrum. If the taxpayer (actually gas tax) subsidy for roads offends you, try calculating the present value of the subsidy the railroads got back in the 19th Century. I'm not sure there is a number that big.
Every truckload on an interstate should be on a train instead. Trucks are for intracity transit, trains are for intercity transit. The energy savings alone are worth the effort.
Rural special interests get government (tax payer) money and are happier. WA has many such lines which local and state tax payers are paying for. WA is a high tax state and getting higher, but hey, happy people!
So many things make me love living here. Bummed I missed cabin fever this year.
I have no idea who you are that lives here or ever have? You could DM me to explain.
